Coleambally Battery Energy Storage System Achieves Major Milestone with 5.3.4 Letter

Risen Energy Australia is pleased to announce that our Coleambally Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has received the 5.3.4 Letter, marking a significant advancement in the project’s development. This milestone signifies the successful completion of critical technical assessments, allowing the project to proceed towards finalizing connection agreements and commencing construction.
Empowering the Grid with Reliable Energy Storage
The Coleambally BESS is a 100 MW / 400 MWh lithium-ion battery system designed to provide four hours of energy storage. Strategically located approximately 9 km northeast of Coleambally in New South Wales, the facility will be adjacent to Transgrid’s existing Coleambally substation and near the 150 MW Coleambally Solar Farm. This proximity enables efficient energy capture and redistribution, enhancing grid stability during peak demand periods.

Supporting Australia’s Renewable Energy Transition
As Australia moves towards a more sustainable energy future, projects like the Coleambally BESS play a crucial role in addressing the intermittency of renewable energy sources. By storing excess energy generated during periods of low demand and releasing it during peak times, the BESS will help balance the grid and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Community and Economic Benefits
Beyond its technical contributions, the Coleambally BESS is expected to deliver tangible benefits to the local community. The project is anticipated to create up to 40 construction jobs over a 10-month period and represents a capital investment of approximately $184 million. Additionally, through a Voluntary Planning Agreement, Risen Energy Australia will contribute around $1.37 million to the Murrumbidgee Council for community enhancement initiatives over the project’s lifespan.
Looking Ahead
The receipt of the 5.3.4 Letter is a testament to Risen Energy Australia’s commitment to advancing innovative energy solutions. As we progress towards the construction phase, we remain dedicated to delivering projects that support Australia’s renewable energy goals and provide lasting value to local communities.
