The Moura Solar Farm is a significant renewable energy project located at 17235 Dawson Highway, Banana, within the Banana Shire Council area in Queensland, Australia. Situated approximately 6.5 km south-west of Banana and 12 km north-east of Moura, the project spans a development footprint of approximately 203 hectares.

  • Capacity – The solar farm has an installed capacity of 110 MWDC, utilizing approximately 185,776 photovoltaic panels.
  • Electricity Generation – It generates enough electricity to power over 43,000 Australian homes.
  • Construction Timeline – Construction commenced in September 2021 and was completed by August 2022.
  • Operational Lifespan – The solar array is anticipated to have a lifespan of 30 to 50 years.

LOCATION

  • The site was selected for its high solar resource, proximity to Powerlink’s transmission network, and access from Dawson Highway.
  • The solar panels are mounted on single-axis trackers that follow the sun’s movement to optimize energy generation.

Environmental and Community Impact

  • Local Economy: The project boosted the local economy by creating jobs and involving local contractors.
  • Flora and Fauna: Surveys were done before clearing to protect plants and animals, keeping the environmental impact low.
  • Bushfire Management: Bushfire plans include a 10-meter protection zone and emergency drills.
