Guide
What makes a great solar panel.
Every panel looks similar on a roof. What separates a great one from an average one is measurable — here’s what to look for, in plain English.
- 01
Cell technology
The cell is where the sunlight becomes electricity, so it sets the ceiling for everything else. Modern n-type cells — like the TOPCon and heterojunction (HJT) cells Risen builds — collect more light, run cooler and degrade more slowly than the older p-type PERC cells they replace.
- 02
Efficiency
Efficiency is how much of the sunlight hitting the panel becomes usable power. Higher efficiency means more watts from the same roof or the same land — fewer panels, less mounting, lower balance-of-system cost. Risen’s premium modules reach up to 24% module efficiency.
- 03
Temperature coefficient
Panels lose output as they heat up — and Australian roofs get hot. The temperature coefficient measures that loss per degree. A smaller (less negative) number means more real-world energy on a 40°C day. Risen’s n-type modules sit at −0.24 to −0.29%/°C, well ahead of typical PERC.
- 04
Degradation & warranty
Every panel fades slightly each year. A great panel fades slowly and guarantees it in writing. Risen’s flagship modules degrade just 0.3–0.4% a year and back it with a 25–30-year linear power warranty — still delivering ~87–90% of rated output at year 30.
- 05
Bifaciality
Bifacial, dual-glass panels also generate from the rear side, capturing light reflected off the ground or roof. Depending on the site, that can add up to ~10–30% more energy — free yield from the same footprint. Risen’s bifacial modules carry an 80–90% bifacial factor.
- 06
Durability & certification
A panel spends decades in sun, wind, hail and salt air. Look for heat-strengthened glass, strong mechanical load ratings, anti-LID/anti-PID performance, and independent IEC/UL certification — proof the durability is tested, not just claimed.
- 07
Bankability — the company behind it
A 30-year warranty is only worth as much as the company standing behind it. Choose a proven, Tier-1 manufacturer with real scale and a local presence. Risen has shipped 118 GW+ of modules worldwide and has been in Australia since 2008 — with local supply, support and warranty.
