Highlights from 2022 and looking ahead to 2023

2022 was an outstanding year for Risen Energy Australia and the broader solar PV market. Here we reflect on some of the key achievements and developments.

Increased renewable funding, Victoria’s energy storage targets & BESS

In 2022, the renewable energy industry received continued and improved support from the Australian government.

In March, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese started his term with a pledge to “end the climate wars” and increase the share of renewables in the National Electricity Market (NEM) as part of the fight against global warming.

In September, Premier Daniel Andrews announced a $157 million package to stabilise Victoria’s electricity grid and accelerate the state’s transition to clean energy. Currently, the Victorian government is aiming for 6.3 gigawatts by 2035, resulting in an estimated 12,700 jobs created and $1.7 billion in investment between 2023-2035.

These developments come alongside $100 million in government grants to support large-scale battery energy storage projects Australia-wide.

Launch of our 25-year product warranty

Starting 2022 off strong, we extended our product warranty from 15 years to 25 years for residential modules for rooftop application in February.

Risen Energy Australia CEO Archie Chen commented: “It remains our goal to ensure we provide our customers with value and complete peace of mind when purchasing Risen panels. Our customers are our priority.”

Danny Song, Head of Product Development of Risen Group, added “Risen has enduring evidence of the longevity of our panels, and it is for this reason we have the utmost confidence in our decision to extend the product warranty to 25 years.”

Our new product releases

2022 was also a strong year for innovation at Risen.

In May, we launched the 440W Titan rooftop multi-busbar solar module manufactured with non-destructive cutting technology.

Following this, we also released brand new 500 to 550W Titan series panels, designed for commercial, industrial and utility-scale applications. These panels utilise the largest cell in the industry, designed to deliver high power at low cost.

To end the year, we released our new 415W Titan panels, upgraded from 390W, keeping the same great size and weight with more power. These panels come with our 25 year product guarantee and utilise the latest 210mm technology to reduce LCOE.

Event appearances in 2022

Risen was honoured to participate in several conferences in 2022, including the Smart Energy Conference & Exhibition at ICC in Sydney and the Clean Energy Council’s Large-scale Solar Forum in Melbourne in May, followed by our forum at One Stop Warehouse’s ‘Future-casting Supply Chain for Solar Industry’ in September and lastly, RX Global’s All Energy Conference in October.

We also were lucky enough to take part in the Smart Energy Council’s installer roadshow which took place nationwide from July to August.

Our presence at these events allowed us to solidify many meaningful partnerships with key distributors and retailers, and provided the opportunity to discuss some of our new product launches and upcoming large scale projects.

Merredin Solar Farm Sale Celebration

The Merredin solar farm is the largest solar farm in WA and one of the top 10 best performing solar farms Australia wide. It is a stunning array of 360,000 monocrystalline panels constructed across 460 hectares, and is a testament to our large-scale solar capabilities.

In October, our representatives gathered with our key Merredin solar farm partners and stakeholders to celebrate its official sale to SUN Energy. It was with great pride that we handed over this incredible project to its new owners.

What does 2023 hold for Risen?

We plan to hit the ground running this new year, starting with the progression of our Bungama battery energy storage system (BESS) project which we were recently granted funding for by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). This project will play an important role in strengthening the South Australia energy network and feature grid forming inverter technology with a new integration system. The Bungama project will be in development alongside a range of other Risen projects in the BESS space as continued innovation and investment in the area occurs.

Another area of focus for Risen this year is the rooftop market, with a focus on growing market share through extending our product portfolio, making products both higher performance and more affordable. We are excited to release our first n-type panel in Australia in early 2023.

This extended product offering will be supported by our partners and suppliers, with our value-adding partnership program set to increase our industry relationships and further our capabilities.
