To be considered high quality, a solar panel must tick several boxes. Here’s what you should look for.

Certifications

Independent certification of the quality of a panel manufacturer is a must.

The most well known and trusted standards are the nationally and internationally recognised ISO standards.

The ISO 9000 family of standards certify the quality of manufacturing processes and products, among many other things. The ISO 14001 family certifies the quality of a company’s environmental management system while ISO 45001 certifies its health and safety system. If a panel brand has all three, that’s a big tick.

A supplier must also be member of the Clean Energy Council which holds its members to a set of standards pertaining to quality and service.

Believe it or not, the hotter a panel gets (over 25 degrees C) the less power it produces!

This means, with long hot summers in many parts of the country, investing in panels with a high temperature tolerance will ensure you continue to maximise your power production.

Evaluating a panel’s temperature tolerance, known as its ‘coefficient temperature’, is a must. The closer a panel’s coefficient temperature is to zero, the better it performs in hot weather. The majority of panels have a coefficient between -0.2 and -0.5. With Risen panels’ coefficient sitting at -0.25, it makes our panels industry-leading in temperature tolerance!

Risen’s products are Certified PID-free, meaning that the panel is guaranteed to withstand the effects of corrosive elements like ammonia (NH3), hydrogen sulfide (HS) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) throughout its lifetime. This is particularly important in Australia where harsh weather conditions and dust can cause panel damage and power loss.

With excellent module efficiency, positive power tolerance and very low temperature coefficients, Risen panels achieved independent recognition from PVEL’s 2021 PV Module Reliability Scorecard which names manufacturers that achieved top-performing test results in PVEL’s Product Qualification Program.
